From Damp to Dream: A Stunning Countryside Cottage Transformation

Project Overview:

The Suffolk Cottage, nestled in the countryside and surrounded by fields, originally consisted of two separate homes, later combined into a single, three-bedroom house. While the location was idyllic, the property suffered from severe damp issues and required a full refurbishment to make it liveable. The Challenge:

The client approached us shortly after moving in, citing significant damp problems and outdated systems throughout the property. Our task was to conduct a full refurbishment, including all-new plumbing, heating, rewiring, insulation, exterior rendering, and interior plastering, all while the client was abroad for three months. This required careful planning, remote communication, and a commitment to finishing the project on time and to a high standard.

Complete Structural and System Overhaul: We started by tackling the core systems, installing a new air source heat pump for energy-efficient heating, completely rewiring the property, and resolving the damp issues by applying new insulation and rendering on the exterior and full plastering inside.

3. Interior Fit-Out: Once the core work was complete, we fitted a new bathroom, shower room, and kitchen, along with flooring throughout the ground floor. To enhance the cottage’s character and provide warmth, we installed a wood burner, creating a cosy yet contemporary feel.
